In the UK every year, accidents at work have a huge impact, resulting in financial loss, personal injury and unnecessary fatalities. But any accident in the workplace is avoidable and this course is designed to show you how. It informs you of your responsibilities under the law and gives you the skills and knowledge you need to create a successful health & safety culture. You'll look at the importance of promoting an accident-free culture and the manager's role - including principles of action, policy and training - and you'll be given opportunities to practise using the tools the Health & Safety Executive would expect to be available in the workplace. Finally, you'll explore current regulations and how they are interpreted for a range of different work situations.

Outline and learning objectives:
Module 1: What is Health and Safety? On successful completion of this module, you will have a greater understanding of the costs of failing to prevent accidents, why accidents are caused and what the minimum requirements are to promote an accident-free culture in your workplace.
Module 2: Managing Health and Safety On successful completion of this module, you will understand what action needs to be taken to prevent accidents, have learned about safety policies, looked at the key health and safety roles in an organisation and considered the sort of training that should be included in an induction.
Module 3: Health and Safety Tools On successful completion of this module, you should understand risks and hazards, risk assessment, job safety analysis, safe systems of work and safety inspections.
Module 4: Current Regulations On successful completion of this module, you will be familiar with the regulations dealing with health and safety at work, manual handling, display screen equipment, personal protective equipment and the use of work equipment. In addition, you'll look at the requirements for performing risk assessments and the reporting of accidents.
